Ovchinnikov Lev Avksentievich (August 6, 1926, the village of Purekh, Nizhny Novgorod province - March 4, 2003, St. Petersburg) - Russian Soviet painter, graphic artist, sculptor and applied man, member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists (until 1992 - Leningrad organization of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR).
Lev Avksentievich was born on August 6, 1926 in the village of Purekh, Nizhny Novgorod Region. In the 1950s he studied at the Leningrad Art and Pedagogical College. He began to study painting relatively late, having behind him the Rostov Maritime College (graduated in 1943) and a solid work and life experience. He participated in exhibitions since the late 1950s, exhibiting his works together with the works of leading masters of fine art of Leningrad. In 1963 he was admitted to the Leningrad Union of Artists in the painting section. He painted landscapes, portraits, genre paintings, worked in the technique of oil painting, etching, woodcut, linocut, monotype, drawing, pastels, watercolors. In his mature work, he gravitated towards symbolism, conventionality of color and composition, to a soft, sometimes ironic interpretation of the images of Russian folklore.
Among the paintings created by Lev Ovchinnikov are the paintings «On Vaigach» (1958), «Porch» (1959), «Hoarfrost» (1960), «In the Port», «At the Shipyard» (both 1961), «On the River» (1962 ), «Staraya Ladoga», «Perevoz» (both 1968), «Landscape with cypresses», «Worker», «Female portrait», «Old man» (all 1970), «Window» (1971), «White Night» ( 1975), «In Old Ladoga», «Fisherman's» (both 1977), «Window», «Portrait» (both 1978), «Morning», «Cactus», «Flood» (all 1980), «Model in the workshop» (1984), At the Store (1985) and others.
Ovchinnikov Lev Avksentievich died on March 4, 2003 in St. Petersburg in his seventy-seventh year of life. His works are in museums and private collections in Russia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, the USA and other countries.
