Marshal Jean Lannes Son of a stableman, soldier of the revolution Jean Lannes, the future Duke of Montebello, was seen by Napoleon as a battalion officer in the battle of Dego on April 15, 1796 and from that day rapidly went up, ending the Italian campaign as a general. He not only fulfilled the intentions of Napoleon, but also himself led the operations, won the battle. This is the only Napoleon Marshal awarded in 1809 personally by Emperor Alexander I, the highest Russian order of Andrew the First Called. He was 39 years old when he was mortally wounded at Essling. Napoleon was seen crying only twice - the second time at the deathbed of Marshal Lannes.
