Harvey Lavan «Van» Cliburn, Jr .; July 12, 1934, Shreveport - February 27, 2013, Fort Worth) - American pianist, the first winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition ( 1958). Van Cliburn toured both in his home country and abroad. Has spoken to royalty and heads of state, to all US presidents from Dwight D. Eisenhower to Barack Obama. He became the first classical music performer to hold a platinum album: more than a million copies of his performance of Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto have been sold.
