Kurdov Valentin Ivanovich (1905, settlement Mikhailovskoe (Perm province) - 1989, Leningrad) - People's Artist of the RSFSR, laureate of the State Prize of the RSFSR im. I.E. Repin. One of the organizers and leaders of the Leningrad workshop of the satirical poster "Battle Pencil". He studied at the Perm free art workshops. In 1923-1926 he studied at the Higher Art and Technical Institute under A.E. Kareva, K.S. Petrova-Vodkina, M.D. Matyushina, A.I. Savinova. Studied with Kazimir Malevich at the Leningrad State Institute of Artistic Culture.
Since 1927, Kurdov began working as an artist for children's books, in the editorial office of the Children's Publishing House, under V.V. Lebedev, who headed (until 1933) the artistic editorial office of the Children's Department of the State Publishing House. Along with other artists - Yu. Vasnetsov, A. Pakhomov, E. Charushin - V. Kurdov is considered one of the artists of the "Lebedev School" in children's book graphics.
The artist's works are in the State Russian Museum, in other museum collections in Russia.
