Smirnov Marat Nikolaevich (born in 1938) - graphic artist. Marat Nikolaevich was born on March 1, 1938 in the village of Monino, Moscow Region. In 1956 he entered and in 1962 graduated from the Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art (Stroganovskoe), faculty of artistic wood processing, specialty «furniture and interior designer». Thesis was defended with honors - toys, souvenirs turned on a lathe. He mastered the academic drawing from the teacher Boris Nikolaevich Lange, student of V.A. Serov. The beginning of creative work in 1962.
In 1962, after graduating from Stroganovka, he was assigned to the Zagorsk art workshop at the branch of the Union of Artists of the USSR. In the summer of 1963, together with two other graduates of Stroganovka Edik Shirov and Boris Mironov, he went to the north of the Vologda region, to the village of Ferapontovo, Kirillovsky district. In 1964 he returned to those regions, in Ferapontovo, in the village of Shchelkovo. In 1965 he was admitted to the easel graphics section of the Moscow Union of Artists. Since 1965, after a trip to the Chelyuskinskaya Art House, he began to actively engage in black-and-white linocut. Works in easel graphics in the genres of portrait, landscape, still life and as an illustrator.
In 1968 he was admitted to the Moscow regional branch of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Since the mid-1970s, he began to actively engage in field drawing using the technique of a simple pencil, ink with a pen with watercolor backlighting. In the early 1980s, he made a series of linocut «Russian North». Since the mid-1980s he began to work actively in the pastel technique. Since the early 1990s, he worked a lot in the technique of color drawing on location with the task of sharpening color decorativeness. Since 1995, for 10 years, he attended S. Richter's musical evenings at the Pushkin Museum, creating a series of drawings inspired by this theme.
